Alberto Mateo brings Caribbean Latino flavors to Maine with cast iron-broiled chicken that is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Started in Bangor in 2023, Iron Pollo moved to Portland in spring 2026 and quickly earned a loyal following. The menu celebrates Maine's history as the former chicken capital of the world while drawing on Mateo's New York food industry roots and his Latin heritage. Known for the chicken and churro waffle, empanadas, yuca fries, maduros, and lemon vanilla sweet tea. Available for catering.
